Thursday April 9, 2020

During the first meeting of the class we will review the course objectives, syllabus, and class format.

We will also begin learning some basic terms and concepts for understanding and speaking about poetry and music in Hindi.

There are no assignments for this session; simply come prepared to listen to poetry and music, learn some new vocabulary, and participate in a simple conversation about why you are learning Hindi or taking the course and how you hope to improve your knowledge of Hindi over the course of the quarter.

If you would like to get a head start and see what we will be watching, learning, and discussing during this session, check out the videos below, in particular the video on the verse form known as the dohā, since we will be encountering this type of poem throughout the course.
