BPRO 25800 (Spring 2021/Winter 2024) Are we doomed? Confronting the End of the World

The U.S.’s Response to Climate Change An Investigation of the Department of Energy’s Loan Guarantee Program.

In the research paper linked above, I aim to provide a thorough examination of the Department of Energy’s Loan Guarantee Program (primarily its Title 17 program) and its role in fostering climate action through the support of innovative clean energy projects. Recognizing the urgent need for mitigating climate change, exacerbated by the rapid warming of our planet and its dire consequences, we delve into the features, application processes, and potential improvements of the LPO program. The LPO is an example of government policy at work as the programs are a direct response to combat climate change and like many government policies, is heavily scrutinized. My primary goal is to offer guidance to prospective applicants, policymakers, stakeholders, and individuals interested in leveraging the LPO program to accelerate the transition to a greener economy or simply to those interested in learning more about the programs. Through this analysis, I seek to highlight the program’s successes, address its shortcomings, and propose strategies for optimizing its effectiveness in driving sustainable energy initiatives. I hope you enjoy!
