Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies

Students in the Class of 2024 or 2025 who would like to major or minor in African Studies can do so through the Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies (CRES) track, which offers an “Africa Past and Present” emphasis. Note: with the founding of a new Department of Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity, the Critical Race and Ethnic Studies (CRES) program will transition to a new major and minor in Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity (RDI). The College Class of 2025 will be the last class with the option to complete a CRES major or minor.  You are encouraged to discuss your focus on African Studies with faculty members whose discipline or research interests matches yours, or with whom you have taken classes.

Other Majors

It is also possible to focus on Africa by taking courses and conducting BA research through other disciplines and centers. Particularly popular are the majors in Anthropology, History, Human Development, and International Studies.
