Updated Fall 2014 Schedule

Dear Ancient Societies Workshop Participants,

I would like to announce a revision to the Ancient Societies workshop schedule for this quarter. Please find the revised schedule below. Please note that because of the Classical Lecture Series lectures, we will not be holding a reception after either of the November lectures.

On November 11th the Center for the Study of Ancient Religions will be sponsoring a talk by Mark Munn (Pennsylvania State University) on “The Mother of the Gods and Empire”
On November 18th, Goda Thangada (University of Chicago, Classics) will deliver a paper on “Athletics and Female Initiation in Ancient Greece.”
On December 2nd (5 pm), Kassandra Jackson (University of Chicago, Classics) will deliver a paper on “Down to the Hour: Timing Systems in Galen’s Medical Writings.”

We are excited to have such a strong slate of speakers to finish out the quarter, and I look forward to seeing you all at these workshop meetings.

Sincerely,
Nick Venable
