This database is a stunningly beautiful creation, a feast for the mind, and an inspiration to theatre makers everywhere. It is at once a roster of eminent artists, a documentary of a significant body of artistic work, and an oral history archive reflecting the life stories, intellectual journeys and creative experiences of a multi-generational array of Shakespearan interpreters. I’m in awe of the collaborative energy shared among the students and the artists involved in the making of this rich and necessary resource. As we return to the work of creating art in the wake of the pandemic, the Black Shakespeare(ans) Database is a gift and a guide, illuminating the path forward. Bravo!
