The University of Chicago is partnering with the Our Miss Brooks 100 initiative and Brooks Permissions to honor the legacy of Gwendolyn Brooks—the first African American poet to win the Pulitzer Prize. A Chicago native, Brooks’ energy courses through black American culture and around the world. Join UChicago for Centennial Brooks, April 6-8, 2017 and other related events throughout the momentous centennial year.
Centennial Brooks
Centennial Brooks is both a scholarly conference and a celebration, gathering scholars, writers and musicians in tribute to Brooks’ legacy. Centennial Brooks is presented by the University of Chicago in partnership with the DuSable Museum of African American History and the Poetry Foundation from April 6-8, 2017 at the Logan Center for the Arts and the DuSable Museum. The event is presented alongside Our Miss Brooks 100—a city-wide program for Chicagoans, from schoolchildren to activists to scholars, and for any citizens who love Brooks’ poetry and admire her example.
