The UCCCC Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategic Plan is a living document that centers on these aforementioned priorities of building diverse teams, fostering inclusive environments, partnering and uplifting our diverse patient populations and communities, and building the next generation of diverse cancer researchers. Through the efforts outlined here, the UCCCC commits to clearly defined goals with measurable impact in the pillars of: Infrastructure, People, Community, and Climate.
Infrastructure
The University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCCCC) is dedicated to fortifying the Infrastructure pillar of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Strategic Plan. Our goals include finalizing and disseminating the plan by January 2023, amplifying diversity in publications, and integrating DEI, COE, and CRTEC through collaborative efforts. Leveraging both institutional and national resources, we actively support trainee events and encourage UCCCC members’ participation in national DEI organizations, ensuring our commitment to becoming a global leader in cancer care through a foundation of diversity and excellence.

People
In fostering the goals of the People Pillar within our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Strategic Plan, the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCCCC) is committed to aligning our leadership and membership with the diverse communities we serve. Climate
The Climate Pillar of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Strategic Plan is committed to ensuring that every member feels valued, included, and empowered to be their authentic selves within the UCCCC community. Through initiatives focused on building inclusive skills and environments, creating a welcoming climate for new members, and practicing cultural humility, the UCCCC seeks to establish safe spaces where diverse voices are heard and respected. Quarterly newsletters, affinity celebrations, and a yearly center-wide One Book Read contribute to a dynamic, supportive environment that prioritizes understanding, inclusivity, and continuous improvement. The Climate Pillar aims to foster a workplace culture where everyone thrives and contributes to the collective success of the UCCCC community.
