As the Executive Committee of the Chicago Arabic Teachers’ Council, we are educators serving a diverse range of students from elementary grades through graduate school. Each day that we set foot in our classrooms, we affirm and renew our dedication to the lives, livelihoods, and futures of our students. We strive to open every opportunity to them and struggle to remove every obstacle from their paths. We have transformed our professional lives over the past three months to fulfill our educational mission in spite of COVID-19 lockdowns. And as many of our students have burst forth from social isolation to peacefully demand social justice in the streets of Chicago, we stand with them and support their cause. Police brutality and harassment remain daily threats in the lives of our students, and it is high time that we make real and lasting changes as a society.
نحن – أعضاء اللجنة التنفيذية لمجلس مدرّسي اللغة العربية في شيكاغو – معلّمون نعمل مع طلاب متنوعين من المرحلة الابتدائية حتى الدراسات العليا. كل يوم ندخل فصولنا متفانين من أجل طلابنا ومستقبلهم. نسعى إلى أن نوفّر لهم كل فرصة، ونكافح من أجل إزالة العقبات التي يواجهونها. على مدار الثلاثة أشهر الماضية لقد قمنا بتغييرات جذرية في طرق تدريسنا حتّى نتمكّن من إنجاز مهامنا التعليمية على الرغم من الحجر الصحي والتباعد الجسدي. والآن، في ظل تدفّق كثير من طلابنا إلى شوارع مدينة شيكاغو مطالبين سلمياً بالعدالة الاجتماعية، نقف معهم وندعم قضيتهم. لا يزال العنف والتحرّش من قبل الشرطة يهدّدان طلابنا بشكل يومي، ولقد حان الوقت للقيام بتغييرات حقيقية ودائمة في مجتمعنا.
