MA Certificate in Education and Society

MA Requirements

The Committee on Education is pleased to offer the MA Certificate in Education and Society to all students enrolled in a terminal MA program at the University of Chicago who have completed the following requirements:

• A graduate-level foundation course, “Schooling and Social Inequality,” offered during the Fall Quarter

• At least three additional education-related courses.
• All four courses must be taken for a quality grade.
• Participation in the Workshop on Education over at least two quarters
• A major research paper, typically an MA thesis, with a substantial focus on education. For students in the Master of Arts Program in the Social Sciences, this requirement must be fulfilled by writing an MA thesis with a focus on education.
