The OCHRE Web API and Apps for Viewing and Searching Data

A RESTful Web API is currently under development for use by Web apps created to view, search, and update published OCHRE data in various domains of research. Registered OCHRE projects and unregistered end-users alike are free to create their own browser and/or mobile apps to view and search published data using the OCHRE Web API. However, the OCHRE Java GUI application (described in the System Design page of this website) is needed to enter and modify data via password-protected user accounts. Each registered project receives a “project administrator” account that allows the project’s director to create additional accounts for members of the project team who are authorized to add and modify data for the project. Each user account has specific privileges for viewing, editing, and deleting the database items of a particular project and these privileges may vary based on the item category. No one can view or change a project’s data without being given explicit permission to do so. The project director may publish some or all of the project’s data to the Web, when ready to do so, thus making it accessible to browser and mobile apps via the Web API.
