Lynn University, a small institution in Boca Raton, Fla., started giving away iPads to all its new students about a year and a half ago. Now there is a catch: If those students cut class, their iPads might tattle on them.
This might seem like a good idea on paper but the students who only come to class because of attendance aren’t looking to be engaged in class. I am against the idea of making students carry a tracking device. Nice try Big brother…
Chris I think I agree with you – the tracking option is too much. Maybe if students knew they were being tracked some of them might make an extra effort NOT to cut class, but I’m not sure that’s the best way to encourage students to show up to lectures.
