Master of Arts in Religious Studies (AMRS)

Program Length   

The AMRS course of study can be completed in one (1) year on a full-time basis. Students may study on a part-time basis and complete the degree in up to three (3) years. 

Program Requirements:

Successful completion of a minimum of 9 courses, including DVSC 30400– Introduction to the Study of Religion, and one course in two of the three faculty committees. 

One-hour oral examination based on a paper written for any class.

Admission Information

We offer rolling admission to the AMRS program. Students may apply for admission for either the Autumn, Winter, or Spring quarter. We do not offer admission for the Summer Quarter. 

Application Deadlines:

Domestic applicants: October 15 (Winter 2020 admission); January 7 (Spring 2020 admission); January 7 (Priority deadline for Autumn 2020 admission); August 1 (Final deadline for Autumn 2020 admission)

International applicants: October 15 (Spring 2020 admission); January 15 (Priority deadline for Autumn 2020 admission); April 3 (Final deadline for Autumn 2020 admission)

Financial Information     

Tuition is charged on a quarterly basis.

2019-2020 AMRS Tuition

  • $4,333 per course

The Divinity School offers merit-based scholarships for AMRS applicants. Divinity scholarships for AMRS students may be renewed for up to 3 years. 

Eligible students may also apply for Federal Student Aid (student loans & work-study) by completing and submitting the FAFSA. Our school code is 001774.
