Kate Pincus is originally from California, but has called Chicago home for the past 7 winters. She has spent the past 10 years in financial services, with the bulk of her career in the surety industry at CNA. She has worked with clients ranging from small, family-owned construction companies to Fortune 100 firms, mainly evaluating financial and operational risk. Kate studied business and classical voice at Santa Clara University, and is currently in the part-time MBA program at Booth. She is on the board of 2 student-run clubs on campus (Studio Booth and the Wine Club), and is also a co-chair for the 2020 United State of Women Accelerator with 3 other Booth women. She loves any opportunity to support female entrepreneurs, especially given the challenges women face. Outside of school and work, she is interested in natural wine and supporting female winemakers/winery owners. Additionally, she is passionate about sustainable fashion and is working towards a goal of having a wardrobe that is 80% second-hand, upcycled, or vintage! Kate attended the first Elevate conference in 2018 during her first month at Booth, and was immediately hooked on the feeling of connectivity with other women across the University! She is constantly inspired by the women at Booth, from her peers to her professors, and is always looking for additional ways to engage with the amazing women in the University of Chicago ecosystem. Being a part of the Elevate Conference seemed like an excellent way to do just that!
Nikita Mehta
My name is Nikita Mehta and I’m a first-year Neurobiology PhD student within the Biological Sciences Division at the University of Chicago! I joined Elevate after attending last year’s conference. The overwhelming amount of support I felt from a one-day conference, the connections I was able to build, and the skills I learned to thrive in both professional and academic settings were all instrumental in my decision to join the Elevate board and organize a women’s leadership conference. Outside of Elevate, I am a member of Dean’s Council and Graduate Recruitment Initiative Team, and am the BSD representative for Graduate Council. I am also passionate about disability advocacy, mental health, and food insecurity, and have been working on improving these aspects of student life through collaborations with the Vice-Provost’s office and Student Support Services.
Sandra McClure
My name is Sandra McClure and I am a first-year Ph.D. student in Molecular Metabolism and Nutrition in the Biological Sciences Division at the University of Chicago. I joined Elevate so that I could strengthen the female network in our area while being more involved with my school. When I am not in the lab or classes I love cooking for my friends, traveling, and spending time with my family.
