The Early Modern and Mediterranean Worlds (EMMW) workshop invites proposals for the upcoming 2023-2024 academic year.

This workshop is designed to provide an interdisciplinary forum for graduate students and scholars who focus on any aspect of the early modern experience (defined as ca. 1200-1800) in Europe and the Mediterranean world; the Middle East; and the Atlantic and New World colonial empires. We welcome works in progress of all kinds, whether a dissertation or book chapter, an article, a prospectus, or a master’s thesis.

If you wish to present a paper, please email both Anna Conner (aconner@uchicago.edu) and Yunning Zhang (ynzhang@uchicago.edu) with a working title of your presentation, and a 250-300 word abstract or short description of your project. Please also let us know if you would prefer to present in the Autumn, Winter, or Spring quarter. We are open to holding sessions both in person and virtually this year. The in-person sessions would be held at 12:30-2:00pm every other Wednesday at Pick Hall 105, but we are always happy to accommodate the schedule of the presenters. If you have a strong preference for either format, please let us know in your submission.

Please submit your proposal by Friday, September 15. We hope to announce our schedule during the first week of the Autumn quarter.
