Deep Purpl Location to Open in Harper Court

The Chicago-based acai/smoothie fast-casual restaurant, Deep Purpl, has a soft opening for the new Hyde Park location scheduled on Friday, August 27.

Located at 5229 S. Harper Court, it is the company’s fifth restaurant in the greater Chicago area, and the first on the city’s South Side. Other locations include the West Loop, Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, and Evanston (coming soon).

With acai offerings more commonly found on the west and east coasts, owner and Brazilian native Gabriel Fleury founded Deep Purpl in 2020, to share his love for his country’s superfood with the Chicago area.

The acai berry (technically not a berry since it contains a pit) comes from the acai palm tree, native to the rainforests of Central and South America. The reddish-purple berries are vegan, nutrient-dense, and have been found to have more than 10 times the amount of antioxidants as blueberries.

Deep Purpl’s fully customizable acai “bowls” are actually cups, sold in 8-, 12-, 16-, and 20-ounce sizes. The cup format makes it easier to hold, and the customer’s choice of 15+ toppings are layered in the cup with fruit on the top. Toppings include vegan granola, organic shredded coconut, chia seeds, vegan cacao nibs, goji berry, hemp seeds, almond butter, organic peanut butter, organic honey, granulated peanuts, powdered and condensed milk – as well as banana, strawberry, blueberry, and kiwi. Smoothies include “Deep Purple” (acai, blueberry), “Deep Red” (acai, strawberry, pitaya), “Deep Yellow” (bananas, mangos, organic honey, orange juice), and “Deep Blue” (blue spirulina, bananas, coconut milk, organic honey).
