Recycled Modern to Host 5th Anniversary/Holiday Party on Sunday, December 17, 2023 – with ABC7’s Val Warner

Embark on a Creative Journey with Recycled Modern: Chicago’s Premier Black-Owned Home Decor Store and Art Gallery.

Recycled Modern, guided by the visionary leadership of owner Shari Currie, is a symbol of artistic expression, community engagement, and the celebration of Black Chicago talent. Since its establishment in January 2018, the store has transformed from sourcing furniture and art into a dynamic art gallery, interiors store, and event lounge—bridging the gap between established and emerging artists. Currie invites you to experience more than just a furniture store; step into a cultural haven where every piece tells a story, and every event is a celebration of art, culture, and community.

The journey began at vintage markets and pop-ups, culminating in the opening of the Lakeview location in October 2018. Recycled Modern consistently prioritizes the rich tapestry of Chicago’s Black artists, creatives, and craftsmen through various initiatives, including interior styling projects, elevated dinner series, and summer artist shows.

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Recycled Modern not only persevered but flourished. Collaborations with artists including Clifton Henri and features in publications such as Apartment Therapy and Chicago Magazine and news segments on WGN have propelled the store into the spotlight of Chicago’s creative scene.

The move to the Hyde Park location at 5231 S. Harper Court in October 2022 marked a pivotal chapter, symbolizing Recycled Modern’s commitment to inclusivity and community. Collaborations with The Silver Room, Bronzeville Winery, and designer Norman Teague further underscore Currie’s dedication to fostering meaningful connections within Chicago’s diverse artistic landscape.

As 2023 unfolds, Recycled Modern takes center stage, culminating in the store’s recent participation in The Culture Brunch at Art Basel – a collaboration with Red Rooster restaurant (Michelin Bib Gourmand), Uncle Nearest, and Show Strategy.
