Ja’ Grill is celebrating the restaurant’s 10th anniversary in Hyde Park with a patron appreciation night on Wednesday, August 14 from 3-7 p.m. The restaurant will offer complimentary cocktails and small bites.
Owned by restaurateur Tony Coates, Ja’ Grill’s menu features authentic Jamaican jerk, curry, and stew chicken dishes along with curry goat, ox tail, and Escovitch red snapper. There’s a full bar with signature cocktails, martinis, and a list of 50+ rums – the Ja’ Rum Punch and Dark & Stormy are especially popular – with wine, craft beer, and non-alcoholic Jamaican sodas. DJs spin reggae, rocksteady, lover’s rock, ska, roots rock, and dance hall riddims, with a little hip-hop thrown in. Ja’ Grill hosts a Happy Hour on Monday-Friday from 4-6 p.m.
From a 2017 Chicago Maroon article, “Ja’ Grill first opened in Lincoln Park on August 14, 2007. Seven years later Coates was presented with a unique offer: to move the restaurant down to Hyde Park as part of a deal with the University of Chicago development and real estate team. ‘They came and marketed the Hyde Park area to see if I could come down,’ Coates said. ‘It was a very unique situation.’ Coates agreed, and Ja’ Grill relocated to Hyde Park on August 14, 2014.”
Coates commented, “We’re so excited to celebrate our 10th anniversary here in Hyde Park. We have the best patrons and wanted everyone to come by and share in the fun with us. The construction scaffolding has come down, and we are ready to celebrate!”
Ja’ Grill is located at 1510 E. Harper Court. The restaurant is open Sunday-Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
