The Hyde Park Garden Fair Bulb & Mum Sale is moving to Kimbark Plaza (located on 53rd Street/Kimbark Avenue) for 2024.
Previously held in the Courtyard of the Hyde Park Shopping Center since 1959, the Garden Fair and Used Book Sale are being moved to Kimbark Plaza due to the opening of new restaurants and expansion of outdoor seating at the shopping center.
The annual Fall Bulb and Mum Sale is on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale features two main offerings: bulbs for colorful spring bloom and Chrysanthemums for autumn color. The huge variety of bulbs is divided into four departments: Daffodils, Tulips, Crocuses & Hyacinths, and Specialty Bulbs (including Alliums and Irises).
The sale will also include a limited selection of native plants, provided by several Garden Fair members from their own gardens. These include plants that prefer autumn planting rather than spring, such as Green Dragon (Arisaema Dracontium).
Attendees may shop for a variety of easy-to-care-for houseplants, as well as an eclectic mix of perennials for planting in the fall (such as Anemones, Peonies, Irises, and grasses) and colorful autumn ornamentals such as varieties of Kale, Cabbage, and Peppers.
Dating back to May 1959, the Hyde Park Garden Fair is Chicago’s oldest community garden sale. The group hosts two annual garden sales and fosters neighborhood gardening projects throughout the South Side.
