The shop windows are still covered with brown paper, but inside, owner Lee Padgett is training staff and putting the finishing touches on the new Hyde Park location of her Detroit-based lingerie boutique, Busted Bra Shop. Her Detroit store first opened in 2013, and with many of her customers coming from the Chicago area, she knew Hyde Park was the perfect place for her second location.
Padgett has scheduled the soft launch of the store to coincide with Hyde Park’s First Thursday event on Thursday, May 3, with a grand opening to be held in June. First Thursday customers will receive a gift with purchase when they mention “First Thursday.”
The shop is located at 1013 ½ E. 53rd Street, next door to the pet boutique, Sprocket & Stone. Padgett has even rented a Hyde Park apartment so she can spend as much time as possible at the store, getting to know the neighborhood and her new customers.
Busted Bra Shop offers a personalized shopping experience, completely different than just buying a bra “off the rack.” Sales associates at Busted are expertly trained in fitting customers for bras and foundation garments, and it’s likely a customer will discover they have been wearing an incorrect bra size. The store offers every day, sport, nursing, mastectomy, plunge, wire-free, and strapless bras in band sizes from 28-56, with cup sizes from double A through O. Panties are stocked in XXS through 10X sizes.
In addition to bras and panties, Busted will stock shapewear, leggings, lingerie, hosiery, and loungewear and robes.
Store events will include free private parties, at which 8-10 people can gather for refreshments, fittings, and personalized service; trunk show/fit events with representatives from the lingerie brands Busted carries; fashion shows with customers as models; as well as events for Mother’s Day and prom/wedding season. The store will also offer gift cards and a registry service.
Some of the brands Busted carries include Cosabella, Curvy Kate, Elila, Elomi, Fantasie & Freya, Goddess, Hanky Panky, Montelle, Panache, Parfait, and Simone Perele.
Store hours are planned for 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.
