Gregory S. Chasson, Ph.D., ABPP, is a licensed clinical psychologist, board certified cognitive-behavioral therapist, Associate Professor, and Director of Behavioral Interventions of the Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders Clinic in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavior and Neuroscience at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Chasson received his BA in psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, after which he earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Houston. He trained for three years at Harvard Medical School, first as part of a one-year, program-required internship at McLean Hospital and then for two years as a postdoctoral Clinical and Research
Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital. Before joining the faculty at the University of Chicago, Dr. Chasson was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Towson University in Maryland and then an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Illinois Institute of Technology, where he also served for four years as the Director of Clinical Training of the accredited Clinical Psychology PhD program.
His clinical work, research, and professional training focus on obsessive-compulsive and related disorders (such as obsessive-compulsive disorder [OCD], hoarding disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, body focused repetitive behaviors, and tics/Tourettes) and anxiety. Dr. Chasson has an extensive track record of providing evidence-based treatment for OCD and related conditions across the full continuum of care (e.g., outpatient, intensive outpatient, residential treatments). He owned and operated two community-based specialty practices for OCD and related conditions and anxiety—CBT Solutions of Baltimore (2010-2016) and Obsessive-Compulsive Solutions of Chicago (2016-2022).
He has thousands of hours of teaching experience in classroom settings and via student mentorship across varying levels (e.g., undergraduate, masters, doctoral students). Based on his teaching experience, Dr. Chasson has established an international reputation as an in-demand professional trainer. For example, in China, he has delivered multiple workshops on the nature and treatment of OCD to train Chinese mental health providers for the Chinese Psychology Society and the China Mental Health Association. In addition, the International OCD Foundation has invited him to deliver trainings for the Behavior Therapy Training Institute, as well as serve as an expert consultant.
As an active scholar, Dr. Chasson has published 70+ scientific publications and carried out grant-funded research projects in the field of OCD and related disorders. He recently co-authored a book to help train professionals on delivering cognitive-behavioral therapy for hoarding. He serves on multiple journal editorial boards, served as the Program Chair for the 2021 annual conference for the Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and is the incoming editor of the Behavior Therapist. His research has been published in numerous journals, such as Journal of Psychiatric Research, Clinical Psychology Review, Health Psychology Review, Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy, Behaviour Research & Therapy, Depression & Anxiety, Journal of Anxiety Disorders, Journal of Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders, and Comprehensive Psychiatry.
