Dr. Chasson is an active research scholar in the area of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related conditions. He adopts a variety of methodological approaches, including experimental research on the nature and treatment of OCD and related conditions; correlational research and secondary data analysis with large datasets; analogue research examining subthreshold symptoms of OCD and related conditions; and the development and testing of innovative intervention strategies.
Much of Dr. Chasson’s recent work has focused on the nature and treatment of hoarding disorder (HD). Part of this has been a focus on how best to enhance motivation for treatment. This has included developing and testing a family-based training program to motivate loved ones with hoarding, a preliminary study of virtual reality as a tool for motivating individuals for hoarding treatment, and investigating stigma as a barrier to HD treatment-seeking behavior. He also co-authored a scholarly book geared to training professionals to deliver cognitive-behavioral therapy for HD.

Dr. Chasson’s research on the nature, measurement, and treatment of OCD remains a priority for his research program and has focused on transdiagnostic overlap between OCD and autism, OCD and tobacco dependence, and OCD and other emotional vulnerabilities (depression).

A considerable portion of Dr. Chasson’s research on OCD and related conditions has focused on the nature and measurement of these conditions in China, where it has been sorely understudied.
