May 31: Marko Malink on Bolzano and Aristotle

On Friday,  May 31 we will hold a joint session with the Wittgenstein Workshop, hosting Prof. Marko Malink.

Marko will present his paper “Bolzano’s Reception of Aristotle’s Logic”. The paper will not be distributed in advance.

We meet at Cobb 430, at 1:30 (please note the irregular location) .

 

Friday, May 17: Anja Jauernig (Pitt)

This week the Early Modern and German Philosophy workshops will be jointly hosting Anja Jauernig (Pitt). Professor Jauernig will present a paper entitled:

“Kant on Leibniz-Wolffian things in themselves”.

The paper will not be distributed in advance.

May 10: Tom Evnen on Reason and Nature

Next Friday, our very own Tom Evnen will present his paper entitled “Is Reason a Natural Principle? On Three Kinds of Naturalism: Naive, Relaxed, Hegelian.”

April 5: Smyth on Kant

smyth posterOn Friday, April 5, we will kick off the Spring quarter with a presentation by our very own Daniel Smyth. The long version of Daniel’s paper, entitled “Meta-Critique and Method: Kant on our Cognitive Faculties“, will be made available here, soon. Daniel will read a shorter version of the paper to start off our meeting.

Our regular meeting time and place for this quarter is friday, 1:30-4:30, at cobb 115.

Friday, March 8: Kumar on Kant’s Philosophy of Right

This Friday, our very own Sheela Kumar will present her paper, “Contradictions in the Normative Status of Rights in Kant’s State of Nature, and the Normative Drive to Self-Sufficiency (Selbständigkeit) in the Civil State”.

The paper is now available here. Sheela will read most of it in our meeting, skipping most of pp. 11-18.

We meet at 1:30 at Cobb 115.  Reception to follow at the Anscombe lounge.

February 8: Clinton Tolley on Kant, Bolzano, and Frege

Next Friday, February 8th, we will host Clinton Tolley (UCSD) who will discuss his paper ‘Kant, Bolzano, Frege, and the universalist conception of logic’. The paper itself will be not be distributed in advance. Recommended background readings:
