To study the molecular, cellular, & developmental basis of behavior, we use Drosophila larval sensorimotor system as a model system. In Drosophila larvae we can span multiple levels of analysis, from molecular and cellular biology to organismal behavior.
We have two main interests: neural circuit development and the neuromuscular basis of behavior. Our ultimate goal is to generate a mechanistic understanding of the self-assembly of neuronal networks that allow animals to move. This work should have broad impact across many disciplines including neuroscience, developmental biology, medicine, evolution, & robotics.
