Recently, I had the joy of sharing a slice of my dissertation with faculty, staff, and undergraduate students in the Asian American Studies Program at Northwestern University. Many of the students at the talk echoed encountering similar experiences as study participants, such that Asian American narratives were granted minimal attention in their K12 schooling and often presented through an uncritical, whitewashed perspective. Our shared experiences affirmed the need for ethnic studies at all levels of our education system. A big thank you to Emily Mun, Prof. Ji-Yeon Yuh, and Prof. Raymond San Diego for the invitation to engage with your program. You can read The Daily’s write-up of the talk here.
