Background

In 2018, with the support of an Inclusive Climate grant, a Pilot Something grant was awarded to establish University of Chicago-wide Latinx Heritage Month programming.  Through this programming, the university will continue to be a clear, committed voice in celebrating Latinx students and staff as active, essential contributors to its academic, professional, and extracurricular climate.

While Latinx Heritage Month is normally celebrated from September 15th to October 15th, in order to better align with the University calendar, we celebrate it from the beginning of October to the beginning of November.

Our Vision

The Latinx Heritage Month Committee has three primary goals:

Recognizing

Celebrating the many meaningful contributions of the Latinx diaspora and unify the growing University of Chicago Latinx community

Connecting

Connecting the Latinx network of the university with the broader Latinx population of Chicago

Inspiring a Legacy

Effectively engaging the community to ensure that this pilot lays the foundation for annualized programming
