Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a practice that involves inserting very thin needles into the skin at specific point on the body. This practice has many uses. One of the uses is to ease pain. Acupuncture is believed to work by activating healing chemicals, or hormones, in the brain and spinal cord that affect the rest of the body.

Paying for Acupuncture

Medicare Part B covers 12 acupuncture visits within 90 days for chronic low back pain. Medicare will not cover acupuncture for any other conditions. Some private health insurances will cover acupuncture visits when they are considered medically necessary and prescribed by your doctor. You can call the number on your insurance card to learn how to get coverage for acupuncture. You can also use self-pay for acupuncture.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic Care is a practice offered by certified medical professionals who focus on the spine, joints, muscles, and their connection to the nervous system. Chiropractic care is given by Chiropractors who have earned a Doctorate of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree before they can become licensed to practice in Illinois.

Paying for Chiropractic Care

Medicare only covers adjustments to the spine. All other insurances cover a variety of services. Any articulation is covered by insurance. Copays depend on the patient’s individual copay. You can get your insurance verified with each office to see if you are covered. This process will take less than 5 minutes. You can also ask for a Superbill to submit to your insurance company. A Superbill is an itemized list prepared by the chiropractor containing all the necessary information to submit for a reimbursement from an insurance company.

Massage Therapy

Paying for Massage Therapy

Medicare does not cover massage therapy. For private insurance, coverage is determined by the insurance company. You might be able to get the services covered by private insurance if it is deemed medically necessary by a doctor. You can also use self-pay for massage therapy.

Physical Therapy is an exercise treatment for patients with pain, injuries, and physical impairments. Methods of treatment include massage, heat treatment, and exercise. These are performed by physical therapists, who earn their Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) through accredited education programs.

Paying for Physical Therapy

Medicare Part B helps pay for medically necessary outpatient physical therapy. With Original Medicare, you pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount, and the Part B deductible applies. Contact your insurance company directly for more information on physical therapy coverage.
