Mayur Bajaj

Mayur Bajaj

President

Mayur was born and raised in India before moving to Chicago for college. He is currently pursuing a B.A. in Public Policy Studies and Statistics at the University of Chicago. Mayur joined IDS in its founding year as a freshman and have loved being a part of it ever since. It’s been a great space for better understanding the logical frameworks and priniciples underlying the transformative campaigns we see around the globe. Better still, these tools often found application during my internships with various non-profits. In his spare time, Mayur enjoys playing billiards, reading non-fiction, and supporting my state cricket team despite their losses.

Julia Ferreira

Julia Ferreira

President

Julia is a fourth year Political Science major completing the Committee on International Relations Joint BA/MA program. While she grew up in South Florida, Julia’s parents are originally from Fortaleza, Brazil. As a child, she spent many summers living in Fortaleza, where she witnessed her close family friends living in the slums work multiple, underpaid jobs and still struggle to make ends meet. This injustice was what first led Julia to become interested in international development, and she was thrilled to find a community of UChicago students who are just as passionate about combating global poverty as she is! Julia has been able to explore careers in public service through summer internships at the Departments of Energy and State, becoming especially interested in climate diplomacy. Outside of IDS, Julia runs committees for UChicago’s high school and college Model United Nations conferences, and in her free time, she enjoys drawing and playing volleyball.
