Below are tutorials for changing your laptop’s output audio device. Before trying those fixes, make sure that you have checked these items:

  • Are you using a VGA cable? VGA does not carry audio and requires a separate cord.
  • Have you adjusted the control panel’s volume knob/slider?
  • Are both ends of the HDMI cable fully plugged in?

You will need to change your laptop’s output audio device if the room display works correctly, but audio comes out of your laptop instead of the room’s speakers.

Windows

In the bottom right of your main menu screen, right click on the sound icon, then select “Playback Devices”. Click on the proper Speaker option, then press “Set Default” in the bottom right of the window.

Mac

Click on the Apple icon in the top left of your screen, then “System Preferences”. In the second row, select “Sound”, then “Output” at the top of the menu. Choose the correct audio source in the menu that pops up.
