Tricia Hern

Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs & Physician Development, Community Health Network, and Indianapolis Chair, Indiana Graduate Medical Education Board

Dr. Tricia Hern is a physician leader and educator with extensive experience in medical education, as well as leadership and organizational development.  She has trained over 200 leaders through a Physician/APP Leadership Academy, a program created and facilitated by Dr. Hern, within the Center for Physician Well-Being & Professional Development at Community Health Network.  The Center was co-founded by Dr. Hern and the network’s Chief Wellness Officer in 2017.  In 2023, the Center was awarded the Indianapolis Business Journal’s Health Care Hero Award for Innovation. Dr. Hern also has extensive experience in undergraduate and graduate medical education, currently serving as the Designated Institutional Official at Community.

Dr. Hern completed medical school at Northwestern University and her residency training in family medicine at University of North Carolina, as well as a Primary Care Faculty Development Fellowship at Michigan State University. She practiced and taught residents and medical students in Chicago for seven years, serving as the Family Medicine Clerkship Director for the Pritzker School of Medicine and as faculty in the MacNeal Family Medicine Residency Program, prior to moving to Indianapolis.

At Community, she served as faculty and Program Director of the Community Health Network East Family Medicine Residency Program in Indianapolis, where she helped create and lead an innovative longitudinal curriculum for the three-year program. In 2010 she was appointed as a temporary Assistant Medical Director at the Indiana State Department of Health to advise and assist with H1N1 influenza outbreak. She is a co-founder and leader of the Women in Leadership Networking Group at Community Health Network for over 10 years. She currently serves as the Chair of the Graduate Medical Education Board for the state of Indiana, which awards grants to support primary care-oriented residency expansion in underserved areas of the state.  She will begin serving on the board of the University of Indianapolis in late 2023.
