Question in Problem Report: Combining lemma and POS in searches

Are you the kind of nerd that wants to search for only the 3rd person plural, present indicative active of a particular verb? Here’s a clarification on where you can still do those searches, or how you can wrangle PhiloLogic4 to get similar results.

It’s easy to leave out possibilities if you do this with a string search: say, καλέουσι, καλοῦσι, καλοῦσιν..

In PhiloLogic 3, which is on the chopping block for reasons that can best be described as Perl rot (we know you love the 90s aesthetic!), allows you to combine criteria:

lemma:καλέω;pos:v-3ppia—

You can find the relevant server at anastrophe.uchicago.edu/perseus/Greek.html (or Latin.html)

Be aware that not all (ahem) Greek texts, and hardly any Latin ones, are hand-parsed, so double-check your results.

What about PhiloLogic 4 (or Φ4 to intimi;-)? You can use the facets on the right hand side to filter following an initial search, and we’re really not sure yet if we can bring back the combo search. Probably not, because (say it with me): Every upgrade is a downgrade!

Here are the results in Φ4. Note the discrepancy? This one is not due to Perl rot; the Φ4 load has Lucian, which Φ3 does not.
