Something Learned

Before I took a close look at these photos of unfurling ferns I did not realize that the little leaflets look like bunches of grapes early in the process.  I learn something new each time I go out photohiking.

In this image of an unfurling fern, the leaflets are clearly formed as they begin to break away and spread out.

This image shows a nearby fern in an earlier stage of the unfurling process. Click on the image to zoom in and you will see that what will soon become leaves now appear as bunches of grapes.
