It is early May and the Ephemerals along the Little Calumet River are in full gear. But they are not the only ones making their first appearance of the year. The insects are beginning to stir as well. Soon it will be difficult to photograph a plant or flower without having one or a dozen insects all over it, but for now you still have to look to find em.
Not sure exactly what kinda fly this is, but I bet it’s one of the ones that hurt when they bite.
I’ve been noticing a lot of these tiny jumping spiders. Sometimes they will sit still long enough to get a shot. But they rarely let you get in too close this is a pretty extreme crop, you would likely not even notice him in the full image. Beautiful little creatures, I hope he eats that bis ass fly in the previous pic.
This little one spend most of the time with its head buried deep in the flower and just its butt showing. Finally it came out and I got a quick shot before it buzzed off.
These bright red mites are pretty common, though they are really small. This one was not much bigger than the head of a pin, he was moving pretty good too.
I hope this one is not allergic to pollen.
