The Medicine and Its Objects Workshop (M&IO) is inviting submissions for the 2021-2022 academic year.

As an interdisciplinary workshop, M&IO welcomes perspectives across disciplines, formats, and genres, inviting graduate students and post-doctoral fellows from across the university with interests that coalesce around the social studies of medicine and allied health sciences to submit works in progress for group discussion.

This year, we would like to particularly invite participants to engage with the following themes:

  1. The ways in which Medicine encompasses diverse therapeutic practices and modalities, situated in everyday, embodied, socio-historical, and institutional contexts
  2. The dialogic processes of knowledge formation, communication, and circulation in and beyond medical domains
  3. The politics of medical knowledge, evidence, expertise, and authority

During the 2021-2022 academic year, M&IO will be on alternating Wednesdays from 4:30-6:00. It will be held in person in Rosenwald (room TBD) with the capacity for hybrid participation and occasional virtual sessions.

If you would like to workshop a paper with us during the 2021-2022 academic year, please fill out our participant interest form, here. This is a rolling call and we will review submissions as they are received, however, for consideration for Fall term, please complete the form by September 17th, 2021. Contact coordinators Megan MacGregor (mmacgregor@uchicago.edu) or Anna Prior (priorah@uchicago.edu) with any and all questions. To get updates via email, join our listserv here.
