Institute Member Emerita Martha K. McClintock, Ph.D. and UChicago colleague Elbert Huang, MD received funding from National Institute on Aging, a unit of the National Institutes of Health, for their proposal, “Social Modulation of Transitions in Diabetes: Synthesizing Data Sets and Biomeasure Assays.”

Project Narrative:
Addressing the diabetes and obesity epidemic effectively requires understanding the different ways that diabetes develops, progresses, and gives rise to complications and mortality. People’s social interactions may reduce diabetes risk and progression. This proposal will generate national estimates of diabetes risk, characterize the social modulation of this risk, and explore the biological underpinnings of this social modulation.
