Zarek C. Brot-Goldberg

Zarek C. Brot-Goldberg’s research focuses on the economics of the health care system, particularly antitrust and regulatory policy issues. His interests include such topics as the effect of high-deductible health insurance plans, the antitrust implications of the vertical integration of physicians into large health systems, optimal default design in Medicare Part D, how authorization restrictions and other paperwork requirements ration health care, and the impact of regulated price increases for hospitals on care provision.

He was awarded the Richard M. Scheffler Prize in Health Economics and the National Institute for Health Care Management Foundation Research Award for best health economics research paper. He was also a recipient of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. He has received grants from Arnold Ventures and the US Health Care Delivery Initiative of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab. His work has been published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics.

Brot-Goldberg earned his PhD in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and received his BS in mathematics and economics from American University. He was a postdoctoral associate at the Tobin Center for Economic Policy, Yale University.
