Nancy Ghanayem

Nancy Ghanayem is chief of the Section of Pediatric Critical Care. Her research interests include univentricular heart disease, perioperative care and monitoring, ventricular assist devices, outcomes, and neurodevelopment. Her clinical interests lie in intensive care medicine, perioperative cardiac care, complex medical care, univentricular heart disease, transitional care, and health care quality.
Her research has been published most recently in The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Journal of the American Heart Association, Seminars in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, and European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery. She is an emeritus member of the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium and chairs its Scientific Review Committee. She is a member of several societies specific to pediatric medicine, critical care medicine, cardiac critical care, and cardiothoracic surgery.
Ghanayem holds an MD from Rush Medical College. She completed a pediatrics residency program and a critical care fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She received additional cardiac critical care training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. She also holds an MS in health care quality and patient safety from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Previously, she was a professor of pediatrics (critical care) and clinical director of cardiac critical care at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Most recently, she was a professor of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and director of complex cardiac care at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.
