Alan Schurle

Assistant Professor
Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care

Alan Schurle’s clinical interests include critical care, liver transplant anesthesia, point-of-care diagnostic ultrasonography, and medical education. He is particularly focused on resident learning and feedback in high-stress clinical environments.

His research on mediastinal mass excision is featured in a chapter in the forthcoming book Cardiac Anesthesia: A Problem-Based Learning Approach (Oxford University Press).

Schurle holds an MD from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, where he was awarded the Hilger Perry Jenkins Award for excellence in medical student teaching. He completed his internship, residency (serving as chief resident), and critical care fellowship at the University of Chicago Medicine. He also holds BA degrees in English and chemistry from the University of Kansas.
