Ayman Al-Hendy

Ayman Al-Hendy’s research has focused on understanding the origin of gynecologic conditions that result in infertility, such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and premature ovarian failure, as well as the development of novel treatments. He has investigated the use of gene and stem cell therapy for these conditions and has studied the role of early-life exposure to environmental toxins among women of color.

His research has been published extensively, most recently in Current Opinion in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Obesity, Reproductive Sciences, Journal of Cancer Science and Clinical Therapeutics, Cells, Current Opinion in Obstetrics and Gynecology, International Journal of Molecular Sciences, and American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Al-Hendy received his medical degree from Zagazig University in Egypt, as well as a PhD in molecular medicine from the University of Turku in Finland. He completed his residency at the University of Saskatchewan and a fellowship in laparoscopic surgery at the University of Toronto. Most recently, he was a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
