Jai Yu

Jai Yu investigates how coordinated activity across brain regions supports cognitive processes: how the brain captures experiences, creates memories, and distills knowledge. He focuses on understanding the relationship between these processes and their underlying neurophysiological mechanisms at the level of activity patterns in neural circuits. His approach combines neural activity recording across multiple brain regions, ethologically inspired behavior tasks, genetic tools to manipulate neural circuit activity, and computational techniques for modeling large-scale neural data.
Yu’s research has been published in Current Biology, eLife, Neurobiology of Learning and Memory, and Nature Communications.
Yu performed postdoctoral research at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of California, San Francisco. He undertook graduate research at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology in Vienna, Austria, and received a BBiomedSc and a BSc (Hons) from the University of Melbourne, Australia. He was also a data scientist at a neuromodulation start-up in the San Francisco Bay Area.
