Joana Lopes Perdigao

Joana Lopes Perdigao is a maternal-fetal medicine physician, a specialty within obstetrics and gynecology focusing on high-risk pregnancies. She has focused her studies on postpartum hypertension and is interested in continuing further study in the “fourth trimester” (postpartum). She also studies the interplay between hypertension and pregnancy, and how such additional factors as race, class, and body mass index affect outcomes for patients. Her research has been published in Hypertension, the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pregnancy Hypertension. Her clinical interests include cardiac disease in pregnancy; she is starting a clinic that focuses on congenital heart disease in pregnancy.

Lopes Perdigao received her medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, followed by a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Chicago. She completed a one-year fellowship in translational research in obstetrics at the University of Chicago prior to completing a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
