Nicholas Maassen

Nicholas Maassen is an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in elbow and shoulder injuries. His primary focus is treating patients who are suffering from muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries; shoulder/elbow arthritis; and fractures in the upper extremity. Along with his clinical work, his research interests include surgical techniques surrounding rotator cuff repairs and shoulder instability, as well as the reduction of infections in shoulder replacement surgery.
His research has been published in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery, the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, and The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery.
Maassen received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Wisconsin– Madison and completed his residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. He subsequently completed a fellowship in adult reconstructive shoulder and elbow surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in New York. Previously, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and was also affiliated with Inov8 Orthopedics in Houston.
