Rochelle Terman

Rochelle Terman’s research examines international norms, gender, and advocacy, with a focus on the Muslim world. She is currently working on a book project that examines resistance and defiance toward international norms. The manuscript is based on her dissertation, which won the 2017 Merze Tate Award for the best dissertation in international relations, law, and politics from the American Political Science Association.
Terman is a faculty affiliate with the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality, Committee on International Relations, and Program on Computational Social Science. Her work has been supported by a Book Workshop Grant from the Center for International Social Science Research and a Time-sharing Experiments for the Social Sciences grant. She is a certified instructor with Software Carpentry and Data Carpentry, which are volunteer projects dedicated to teaching basic computer and data skills to researchers.
Terman received her PhD in political science with a designated emphasis in gender and women’s studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Her AB in political science is from the University of Chicago, where she minored in Near Eastern languages and civilizations. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford University.
