Samantha Gunning focuses on understanding the impact of fluid balance, as well as risk factors and outcomes associated with acute kidney injury in the intensive care unit. Her clinical interests additionally include multidisciplinary care for advanced stage chronic kidney disease.

Her work has been published in Kidney360 and the Journal of the American Heart Association.

Gunning received a BA in sociology magna cum laude from Georgetown University, followed by her MD. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Chicago Medicine, where she was later a clinical fellow in nephrology. She is finishing an SM in public health sciences for clinical professionals at the University of Chicago.
