Sean Pinney, the co-director of the University of Chicago Medicine’s Heart and Vascular Center and director of its Advanced Heart Failure, Transplant, and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program, is a leader in heart failure and cardiac transplantation. He offers treatments ranging from medication to heart transplants and mechanical circulatory support, such as ventricular assist devices, to deliver long-term solutions for patients. He also specializes in treating valvular and structural heart disease, including congestive heart failure, and frequently offers second opinions for the most challenging cases. In addition to his clinical practice, Pinney has led National Institutes of Health and industry-sponsored research trials in the areas of heart failure, cardiac transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support.
He has published more than 140 articles in scientific journals, including the American Journal of Transplantation, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Journal of Cardiac Failure, and Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
Pinney received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Georgetown University. He completed his residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, as well as fellowships in cardiovascular medicine, congestive heart failure, and cardiac transplantation at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. Most recently, he led the advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation programs at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
