Headshot of Yi Sun

Yi Sun

Assistant Professor
Department of Statistics and the College

Yi Sun studies probability and its applications to machine learning and high-dimensional statistics. His recent work addresses applications of random matrix theory to high-dimensional linear models, probabilistic and representation theoretic approaches to conformal field theories, robustness and data augmentation for neural networks, and optimization theory for multireference alignment and cryogenic electron microscopy.

His research has been published in Advances in Mathematics; Selecta Mathematica, New Series; and Communications in Mathematical Physics.

Sun earned a PhD in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; an MASt in mathematics with distinction from the University of Cambridge; and an AM and an AB magna cum laude in mathematics from Harvard University. Most recently, he was a Joseph F. Ritt Assistant Professor and a Simons Foundation Fellow at Columbia University.
