Dear All,

Please join the Transnational Approaches to Modern Europe Workshop and the Interdisciplinary Approaches to Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia Workshop on Wednesday November 29 for the final workshop of the quarter. We will be welcoming Sheila Fitzpatrick, Bernadotte E. Schmitt Distinguished Service Professor Emerita at the University of Chicago. Professor Fitzpatrick will present her paper “The Tramp’s Tale: Travels within the Soviet Union and Across its Borders, 1920-1950.” Commentary will be provided by Eleonor Gilburd, Assistant Professor of History and the College.

The paper is currently available on our canvas and chalk page as well as the workshop website. The paper comes with two PDF maps. For those who are not members of the workshop interested in getting the paper, please email the Workshop coordinators Gregory Valdespino (gvaldespino@uchicago.edu) or Alexander Herbert (ath459@uchicago.edu) to get a copy of the paper.

We will be meeting in the John Hope Franklin Room (SS 224), 5-6:30 PM. After the event, we will be having a dinner that all workshop participants are invited to attend. If you are interested in coming to the dinner, please RSVP and email Gregory Valdespino (gvaldespino@uchicago) by Sunday, November 26.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Best,                                                                                                                                            Gregory and Alexander
