About the keynote speaker – William C. McGaghie, PhD is a Professor in the Departments of Medical Education and Preventive Medicine at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois USA. Dr. McGaghie’s medical education scholarship is wide-ranging including personnel and curriculum evaluation, research methods, clinical skill acquisition, the science of expertise, and especially simulation-based mastery learning. Dr. McGaghie has been a consultant to a variety of professional organizations including the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Medical Specialties, and to universities and medical schools worldwide. In 2019 he received the John P. Hubbard Award from the NBME for excellence in the field of evaluation in medicine. Dr. McGaghie has authored or edited ten books and has published more than 300 journal articles, textbook chapters, essays, and book reviews in health professions education, simulation-based education, and related fields. His recent publications include (with JH Barsuk and DB Wayne) Comprehensive Healthcare Simulation: Mastery Learning in Health Professions Education. New York: Springer, 2020; and (with DB Wayne, JH Barsuk, and SB Issenberg) Deliberate practice and mastery learning contributions to medical education and improved healthcare.
