We are excited to announce our intention to hold a FREE virtual workshop event for Winter 2022: our Science Olympiad Enrichment Day (SO-ED)! The purpose of this year’s event is to provide resources for Science Olympiad teams in the Chicago area – especially from CPS schools – to have fun learning science in a low-pressure setting while preparing to succeed in the Spring 2022 regional competitions.

• Eligibility: In recognition of the unique challenges that Science Olympiad programs from Chicago Public Schools can face, this event is primarily intended for students/teams from CPS schools. We hope that by hosting this event, we can be a useful resource for CPS teams competing in the March 14th, 2022 CPS Regionals competition.  We would also welcome newer and less-well-resourced Science Olympiad programs/teams (including homeschool teams) to participate – please feel free to fill out the form below if you meet any of these additional criteria and want to join!
• Format: Due to ongoing public health challenges, we intend to host this event in a mostly asynchronous format. We will release pre-recorded videos by UChicago Science Olympiad members onto our YouTube page, each covering topics related to the 2021-2022 Science Olympiad events. On the nominal event date, we will also host a Scavenger Hunt with clues based on these videos. We hope that students from each school can team-up to answer all the questions/clues we provide. We will award the first team/school to accurately complete the Scavenger Hunt with a yet-to-be-determined prize.
• Date: All workshop videos will be distributed in advance of Saturday, February 19th. The Scavenger Hunt will officially begin after clues are released here on the UCSO website at 9am on that date. The videos will remain on YouTube throughout Spring 2022 (accessible only via this page) so as to serve as a useful resource for teams throughout the competition season.
• Registration: Because we are hosting this event in a (mostly) asynchronous format, there is no maximum number of registrants we can support nor a deadline to register. We encourage team coaches interested in having students attend to express interest on this form [https://forms.gle/gNc1N9dZvdV1Vs3q8] so that we can ensure you are included on all communication about this event.
