Shaz Rasul – Director of Community Programs in the University of Chicago’s Office of Civic Engagement – oversees a number of Education and Community Engagement initiatives that focus on the mid-south side of Chicago.  Some of these initiatives include the Neighborhood Schools Program, UChicago GEARUP, and the new Community Programs Accelerator which aims to develop the capacity of local community organizations.

Shaz has a background in teacher training and curriculum development, education technology, partnership development, and has launched and scaled a number of programs and partnerships.

He has served as a Peace Corps Volunteer (South Africa 99-01) and worked with the CPS/UChicago Internet program (a STEM partnership) in the years prior to joining the Office of Civic Engagement in 2010.   He is a two-time graduate of the University of Chicago (AB’97 Sociology,  SM’08 Computer Science).
