Welcome to our newest LEND program members
Alissa Zeglen and Melissa Singleton are the newest members of the LEND program. The aim of their research project is to comprehensively investigate the current research surrounding the effects of genetic mutations at 17p13.1 on affected individuals.
Shavani Patel and Amanda Obersen are a few more of the newest members of the LEND program. The project they are working on through the LEND program seeks to explore providers’ perspectives on anticipatory and diagnostic guidance for families of children with invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) dependency, most of whom are survivors of extreme prematurity and face high rates of neurodevelopmental disabilities. Through key informant interviews with NICU and PICU providers, community-based therapists, and physicians, the study will gather qualitative data to describe experiences and opinions on habilitative needs and long-term outcomes. Particular attention will be given to challenges related to conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, intellectual disabilities, and speech and feeding disorders, with a focus on addressing the impact of tracheostomies on expressive language development.
